Allready Packed openSUSE then Unpack Ubuntu

Yes, feel sorry for Gecko’s (openSUSE user). I’m now with Ubuntu, started with Ubuntu 9.04 a.ka Jaunty Jackalope Desktop on My L30-C330 Toshiba Laptop. My family proxy server migrated to Ubuntu 9.04 Server. I’m impressed by Ubuntu’s simplicity, pointed once again “I’m just ordinary user”.

It’s almost 4 months Ubuntuing my Laptop and 2 months for My family proxy server. Now I’ll give my opinion:

Ubuntu:
- Just boot Your Live-CD and install it to Your Hard Drive, 7 step only.
- You’ll find many ‘blues clues’ by googling even just using ‘ubuntu’ as keyword, magnificent community (why?).
- “Just Work!” really just work for me, no more make and make install.
- etc.

Now I’m developing a web 2.0 project using Aptana after NetBeans kill my free memory space. Aptana side by side with Gedit, Geany, MySQL GUI-Tools, MySQL Workbench, PgAdmin III, Flamerobin, Firefox and Chromium Browser. Everything just fine, no more 80% install 15% reporting bugs and 5% using it on every applications. Now fully 100% just using it, and it’s throttling my works.

Welcome to Human being world!

Replace my openSUSE 11.1 with my new Ubuntu 9.04

Ubuntu

Ubuntu

No! I’m not flaming “which one” war. Some friends ask me, “which do You choose, openSUSE or Ubuntu?”. My answer is always same, “just like choosing cheese-burger and beef-burger, hahaha…”. It’s depend on what will You do with Your machine. Working with article, typing and editing or develop software both of them can support Your needs. The matter that we must choose is level of usability.

I’m using GNU/Linux since 11 years ago started with RedHat 5.x then Mandrake. Meet openSUSE (SuSE) at college because my lecturer have one, “hummm..nice green”. Since that I’m always using openSUSE, whatever other say about Mandriva and Ubuntu. Now I’m working with my Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalop).

openSUSE

openSUSE

Why, am I leaving openSUSE world? No! I’m still concern and love openSUSE. Ubuntu help me to make openSUSE better, what? that’s not funny at all. Ubuntu makes me faster than before, so here it is…

Installing openSUSE 11.0 and stay stick for a year even there is 11.1 in my DVD case, but GNOME 2.26 always attracts me, and surrender is my answer. Last month I upgraded my openSUSE 11.0 to openSUSE 11.1 with lots of problem. Then I decide to ‘clean install’ openSUSE 11.1 and upgrade default GNOME 2.24 to GNOME 2.26. “Abracadabra!” done!

Working with my new mate, with his ‘desktop effects’ and handy compiled display driver, wifi-card, and sound-card it’s so fun, and I’m satisfied. Java, Netbeans, PHP and GTK# done in our hand ( Me and my mate :D ).

“New project for You, copy this Firebird to that PostgreSQL“, start with installing all tools like flamerobin (handy compiled) and pgadmin3. Everything seems right and easy, but after days of work. “Oops! I can’t do that with my openSUSE”, because I have to hand compiled my self every tools that I need, thats kill my time.

“Ubuntu, yes I’m gonna put You in my machine”, start download ubuntu desktop ISO from local mirror. “What! I don’t have blank-CD”, searching my bag and only found 1Gb Slow-USB Flashdisk. UNetbootin is my first ‘blink-lamp’, then download it, run, plug my USB Flashdisk and waiting (hupfh…very slow USB Flashdisk). After UNetbootin tell me that his job done, restart my machine and boot to USB.

“Alakazam!”, only 20-30 minutes my Ubuntu ask my password. Done!
No…no…no….not finish yet, what makes me really surprised and shocked are:
- My ATi Radeon Xpress 200M flawlessly detected and configured.
- My Atheros 5005G/21xxG detected and connected to local host-spot.
I never have that on my openSUSE, only hand compiled makes me have that. Even my HDA Intel ALC861 still not work yet.

My pre-conclusion are Ubuntu makes me use Ubuntu and openSUSE makes me learn openSUSE and GNU/Linux.

PS:
Sorry, my internet connection like a snail. I’ll complete this post as soon as possible. Stay with turtlix….hehehe…
